Authorities in Arkansas are TradeEdge Exchangeworking to identify the body of a woman who was found dead and reportedly "partially decomposed" in a plastic bag on the roadside.

The St. Francis County Sheriff’s Office, in a press release Tuesday, said that investigators responded to a call around 4:00 p.m. Tuesday about the body of an adult woman found on the side of the road on County Road 731 just off Highway 334 in Wynne, about 120 miles east of Little Rock. KARK reported that the woman's body was found in a plastic bag without any clothes on.

The victim has not yet been identified and the sheriff's office said that the body will be sent to the Arkansas State Crime Laboratory to "determine the manner and cause of death and to identify the body".

"The investigation is ongoing, and no other details will be provided at this time," said the sheriff's office in the press release.

'Partially decomposed'

St. Francis County Sheriff Bobby Mays told KARK that the woman's body was "partially decomposed," leading investigators to believe that it "had been out there maybe a couple of weeks".

“Whoever did this had no feeling at all whatsoever for what they had done, no conscience," Mays said. “These are the kind of people we want to put behind bars for sure."

Mays told KARK that the body was discovered by two teenagers who were riding four-wheelers in the area. He said that after the two teens posted about the body on social media, a person reached out to them claiming that the body may be his mother, who was last seen four weeks ago.

However, the sheriff was doubtful because that person never filed a complaint for a missing person.

USA TODAY reached out to The St. Francis County Sheriff’s Office but they declined to comment on the ongoing investigation.
